how to install a remote printer attached to win2000 PC

Hi,

The Printer is attached to win2000 system to its parallel port and configured.

Now I have to configure it as remote printer to HP-UX11i ystem so that I can take the printouts from HP-UX machine.

If any one one has done this , kindly guide me.

Thanks

Try to use samba, mounting shared printer locally on HPUX machine.

Don't know about the WIN side.
On the HPUX side, goin to SAM for Printers and Plotters --> LP Spooler --> Printers and Plotters.

From the menu bar choose Action. An item in that list will be to add a remote printer.

You will need the remote system name (or IP) plus the name of the printer on the remote system.

Add the entry for windows system in /etc/hosts. Make sure you can ping to it.

Add the printer as remote printer from SAM.
From command line, you can do it as follows.

lpshut --- shutdown the spooler

lpadmin -pprinter_queue_name -v/dev/null -ob3 -mrmodel -ocmrcmodel -osmrsmodel -orc -ormremote_host -orpqueue_name

-orpqueue_name in this queue_name would be what it is on remote printer. Internal printer queue name.

The Windows 2K/2003/XP machine will need to be setup for TCP/IP printing (or lpd printing). There will also need to be some registry changes apart from just sharing out the windows printer and doing the RAC 'lpadmin.." command.

To enable TCP/LPD Print services.... Launch Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs - then select "Add/Remove Windows Components" , "Other Network File and Print Services" - "Details" and tick "Print Services for UNIX"
