how to make printer alias?

From HPUX 11.0, I have several printers that need to be available (using lp -d) under two different names. Is there a way to do this besides using SAM to create two printers for each? Thanks

Re: how to make printer alias?

Well, it's a bit unorthodox but you could create a class that has but one member and submit some of the jobs using the class name and others using the printername.

Let's suppose that you have an existing printer (or queue) 'jekyl'.

Now let's create a class 'hyde'.

1) lpshut
2) lpadmin -pjekyl -chyde
3) accept hyde
4) lpsched

Now submits jobs as usual:
ls -l /tmp | lp -djekyl
ls -l /tmp | lp -dhyde

By the way, if you at some point want to remove this class then:
lpshut
lpadmin -xhyde
lpsched
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Using a class name as an alias works just fine. However, for HP JetDirect LAN cards, you can define the same printer over and over again with different names. addqueue is a great way to do this.
