Hi
i have a question.
]Currently running HPUX 11.31 on RP7440.
Storage is attached.
However, server recovery is impossible due to serious hardware failure.
I am trying to install HPUX 11.31 on my brand new RX2800.
And you want to connect your existing storage.
vgexport is not possible on the original server.
Is storage data volume recovery possible without vgmap (vgexport)?
Thanks

Re: How to recover storage volume without vgexport?
Hi,
I don't think OS of RP7440 machine will work on RX2800. Both are having different architecture as RP machine has PA RISC architecture and RX machine has Itanium architecture. So better to install the OS freshly on RX2800 server.

Re: How to recover storage volume without vgexport?
If the VG contains raw data, or NON-OS-filesystem data, it may be possible.
Have you tried to run vgimport? If yes, what error do you get ?

Re: How to recover storage volume without vgexport?
So I installed a new OS on the RX2800.
But the question is, can I get the storage volume?
Unable to run vgexport on source server.
It is still a pre-check before OS installation in RX2800.
I'm looking for a way to load a volume when the storage is connected to the RX2800.

I can´t give you a YES or NO, to your question. I think it should be possible.
The "vgexport", that you currently can´t run on your "old" system, writes the VG information into a map-file and removes the VGID from the LVM header.
I think that the vgimport does not necessarily need a map file. I found this old article that may help:
