Re: How to setup dual boot on hpux server
Use 'setboot' to point your primary and secondary boot pathes to the disk containing each release.
See the manpages for 'setboot(1M)' for more information.

Re: How to setup dual boot on hpux server
You do need two disks. LVM on HP-UX only supports a disk being in one volume group.
After that, install the OS's in squence each on its own disk.
At the ISL prompt disable auto start unless you like rushing to hit the keyboard during the 10 second prompt.
Then boot providing the hardware path you wish to boot from, probably P0 or P1 on older machines or P1 and P2 on newer ones where the CD/DVD-ROM get P0

Re: How to setup dual boot on hpux server
you have 11.11 on disk 0/0/2/0.0.0 , you have to stop at the boot menu and run
Menu> boot 0/0/2/0.0.0
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: How to setup dual boot on hpux server
I am sure you will not be able to use two HPUX version with one disk Not like other Operating systems. Probably you can have two Disks and you can install HPUX 11i in one diks and HPUX 11.00 in another disk. While booting you disable the auto boot and give command as below.
Main> sea ipl
you will get two disk as P0 & P1. you can boot any of the Operating version as you whish to boot by gving command "bo P1" or "bo P0" from the main memu.
The second option is if you can have Vpar installed and one partion we can install HPUX11i and other with HPUX11.00 In this both the operating system can run at the same time.
The Third option is using NPar . you can create two Npars and install different Operating system in the each npars. This is supported if have Hardware of abouve rp7400 ie on cell based system only.
Thanks and regards

Re: How to setup dual boot on hpux server
The installation routine will set the last installation to default boot disk.
Hope this helps!

Re: How to setup dual boot on hpux server
Note the H/W path of the disk.
When the installation is complete, shutdown the machine, remove the first disk and insert the 2nd disk and perform the installation again !!
Once both the installation is complete, use setboot command to determine which version of the OS should boot first !!
Cheers.

Re: How to setup dual boot on hpux server
Go through the installation process and install the OS on one disk. Two things
1. Note the disk adress you installed th OS on
2. use setboot to disable autoboot
Boot of off the second install CD and install the OS on the other disk. again, note the disk address use setboot to turn autoboot off.
Now when you you want to change between the two OS's, simply reboot the system and and at the BCH do a sea which will list the disks and their addresses, the ndo a bo pX where pX is the disk you want to boot from

Re: How to setup dual boot on hpux server
Since you are new to HP The best way is remove the second disk install the Operating system completely.
Then remove the first disk and insert the second disk and install the other version of Operating system.
For installing HPUX .
1. Power on the server .
2. Enter into Main menu by Breaking the booting sequence and when PDC prompts for intrupt.
3. Give command "sea ipl" in main menu where you get all the boot devices. which will be displayed as P0, P1..
4. Manin>bo P0{which ever CD ROM Path}
5.This brings to installation screen
6.Install OS as per requirement.
similarly do for other as well
