how to specify where recovery starts?

I backed up a whole directory, from the mount point. I now want to do a recovery of this on a different mount point, but under SAM, seems there are no options to specify where to direct the recover (or which file to dump the recovery in). Does anyone know how to do this through SAM?

Thanks.

Re: how to specify where recovery starts?

Can you clarify mount point? ie: /dev/vg00/lvol14 or /home ??

frecover is used to restore it.

Re: how to specify where recovery starts?

Harry,

/dev/vg02/lvol12 /dba_dump

I backed up the /dba_dump. Now, I am going to add /itapadm as the mount point and then do a recover of the /dba_dump to /itapadm.

That is...I want /itapadm/dba_dump...etc

Thanks.

Re: how to specify where recovery starts?

Denise, I'm following up on your previous post regarding remounting /dba_dump as /itapadm/dba_dump. You don't need to recover if the data is intact. Just move it all to a subdir before or after remounting. Refer to my response to your previous post.

Re: how to specify where recovery starts?

Jordan,

Thanks for tracking me down to this other question. I got it working on account of your post in another, which helped me alot. But when I did exactly what you said, it worked all the way through. However, I don't know how the /dba_dump got created in the file system /itapadm because I did not create it. I suspect it has something to do when I did a mkdir /dba_dump while in the filesystem /dba_dump.

This posting is related to the post you and I were working on, but is a different topic actually.

I just noticed in SAM, when I wanted to do a recover of a directory (for example /dba_dump) there did not seem to be an option to tell the GUI where to put/starting point of this recovery file. I must be overlooking something.

I still wanted to know in case I need to recovery MY backups...as we have different group who does all the backups.

Thanks and I'll see what Sir Harry comes up with. You guys are all good!

Have a good evening!

Re: how to specify where recovery starts?

I don't know how in SAM you would do it, but using the -X option on frecover will do what you want-

cd /itapd
frecover -xX -f /dev/rmt/0mn -i /dbaxcs

Would create all the files under
/itapd/dbaxcs
