How to start a X server in HP-UX 11.00
Dear Forum Mmebers,
How to start the X server and how to ensure it is started?
My Hardware is HP9000 R380
OS is HP-UX 11.00
I have already Installed EXCEED in my web console PC. But yet I am not able to get the installation type dialog box while installing the D2K on HP-UX.
Can some body help me steps to be followed to ensure the this ?
Thanks in advance.

Re: How to start a X server in HP-UX 11.00
If your server does not have a graphics card you will not be able to start an Xserver locally on the box: The Xserver looks at /usr/dt/config/Xservers or if it exists /etc/dt/config/Xservers to see if it should start one (see the last line of this file).
However since you are using exceed you may not need or want it anyway, but you will want a window manager ie CDE to be running to handle remote Xwindows connections.
For this you will need the CDE RunTime Env installed .... this should handle remote connections by itself so check that the process dtlogin is running. if is nottry running /sbin/init.d/dtlogin.rc start.
Then use Exceeds config section to start a XDMCP-Broadcast if you are on the same subnet you should see the R-class listed in the chooser menu , if not you may need to ammend your network settings in exceed. Also ensure the pc and HP server no about one another ie DNS or hostname resolution is working between the server & client.
However I'm not too sure what you mean by ...the installation type dialog box while installing the D2K on HP-UX.
