How to tell the model number of the Tachyon Fibre card installed?

I have several systems ranging from K class to rp7410's...11.o and 11.i....

ioscan only shows:

1/0/0/0 td HP Tachyon TL/TS Fibre Channel Mass Storage Adapter

fcmsutil /dev/td0

I know from man fcmsutil:

DESCRIPTION
The fcmsutil command is a diagnostic tool to be used for the TACHYON
A3740A, A3591A, A3404A, A3636A and TACHYON TL A5158A, A6684A, A6685A
and TACHYON XL2 A6795A Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters. This command
provides the ability to perform Fibre Channel Test and Echo
functionality, read the card's registers, etc. This command requires
the use of a device file to indicate the interface over which the
requested command needs to be performed.

The options that are available only for the TACHYON A3740A, A3591A,
A3404A and A3636A HBAs are indicated by a "T" in the description for
the option.

The options that are available only for the TACHYON TL A5158A, A6684A,
A6685A HBAs are indicated by a "TL" in the description for the option.

TACHYON XL2 A6795A HBA is indicated with a "XL".

But how do I know if I have a 5158 or a 3740???

Re: How to tell the model number of the Tachyon Fibre card installed?

Check what driver you have installed:
# swlist -l fileset |grep -i tachy

Tachyon xl2 = A6795A
Tachyon tl = A5158A

Re: How to tell the model number of the Tachyon Fibre card installed?

An A3740A is a discontinued card. It was supported on:
v2200/2250/2500/2600
rp7400 (n-class)
rp54xx (l-class)
a180/400/500

11.00 only

Re: How to tell the model number of the Tachyon Fibre card installed?

One more post, if you look at the Fibre doc here, there is a section for each card.
http://www.docs.hp.com/cgi-bin/fsearch/framedisplay?top=/hpux/onlinedocs/A3636-96011/A3636-96011_top.html&con=/hpux/onlinedocs/A3636-96011/00/00/19-con.html&toc=/hpux/onlinedocs/A3636-96011/00/00/19-toc.html&searchterms=fibre&queryid=20030602-105045

The doc includes pictures of the cards, so you may be able to compare how the cards look to determine which card you have installed. For instance the old A3740A has on a Link, but the A5158A has a Link and PWR/ACT

Re: How to tell the model number of the Tachyon Fibre card installed?

I'm looking to be able to do this without going to the data centre....

From the fcmsutil man - I know that if it shows up as XL2 - then you have a 6795A - but what about a TL/TS?

Re: How to tell the model number of the Tachyon Fibre card installed?

All right,
a5158a,a6795a are PCI cards. The rest are not.
Newer models (L,N,A,Superdome,rp-8400 etc) can
only have PCI adaptors.
The sad thing (I mentioned from one of our customers) is that fcmsutil shows speed (of link) only for certain cards. For example,I could see for a6795a a "Speed=2....(~2Gbit)"
line while for a5158a couldn't see such a field.
Anyway, ioscan shows XL2 for a6795a and not for
a5158a.

Another ways include using STM->Information->InfoLog for specific adaptor.

Re: How to tell the model number of the Tachyon Fibre card installed?

Can't seem to assign points at the moment....

Zeev - yeah - I looked at STM - but I want to be able to run a command from the command line to grab the info from all my servers - and not have to run STM - howvere - I did see in the "graphic" of the Fibre Channel Interface:

(HP5158A_Tachyon_TL)

Not in the info log - where does STM get that information? Must be somewhere - 10 points to whomever tells me first. :)

Re: How to tell the model number of the Tachyon Fibre card installed?

It's done through several scans and some complicated code (versus scanning the HW) and can get out of date such as the case with SR 8606301542 where STM reported the incorrect version on the Aclass machines. For the most part the displayed icon is correct but that may not always be the case.

Re: How to tell the model number of the Tachyon Fibre card installed?

Geoff,
Oh well you can use cstm on a command line,
the usual syntax is "selclass qualifier <>;info;wait;il" | cstm.Need to put something
for fc adapters instead of <>.
As where STM gets the info...hmm..from drivers
obviously,some tdlib or else...Just guessing.

Best luck :)

Solution

Re: How to tell the model number of the Tachyon Fibre card installed?

You can script cstm by putting the commands in a file. The only catch is that you have to know the device number (as assigned by the cstm "map" command) or the device path.

Here's an example, where 31 is the device of my Tachyon:

select device 31
CurrDevStatus
done
q
ok

You could try to do a script where you first run the map command, grep out the device number, and then write the commands above with the device number to a new file and then execute cstm -f [filename] to run it all.

Re: How to tell the model number of the Tachyon Fibre card installed?

Thanks everyone!

Speciallly thanks to Mark! - here's my script:

#!/bin/sh
# Script to find out tachyon model installed - Geoff Wild
for i in `echo 'map;q;ok' |cstm |grep "Fibre Channel Interface"|awk '{print $1}'`
do
echo "select device $i;CurrDevStatus;done;q;ok" |cstm |grep Tachyon
done
