Re: how to tune disk IO

Hi,

You can not do much for a indisual disk. But you can plan your VG's in stripping so that maximum no. of disks are used for any transfer resulting in maximum throughput.

Re: how to tune disk IO

That is a pretty broad subject and a lot would depend on the type of disk and how it was set up and how it was attached. If you have access to the Technical Knowledge Base (requires a support contract), there are several generic performance tuning white papers which might help you:

Re: how to tune disk IO

Well....best place to start - take the HP-UX Performance and Tuning course.

Tuning disks check -
% utilization
queue
amount of physical I/O
Buffer Cache hit ratio - you want > 90%

sar -d 5 5

If avwait > avserv - then you have an issue

How to tune?

add more disks to offload busy ones
add more controller cards - to split load
add faster disks (15K rpm)
Disk striping
mirroring

Re: how to tune disk IO

Nabil,

i have also EVA5000 and once upon a time
i have also needed and discussded it with
HP...
There is no monitor tool for to EVA disks
Because they are build with high techology
and never needs such a kind of monitoraziton
so just trust your EVA env!!!

But if you want your hp-ux box then

and also you may use Glance but it is a license product from Hp
