how to verify disk identity in jbod
I used to use dd command to test a disk using the legacy addresses (cxtydz). I have jbods with disks configured with the agile naming (under hp-ux 11.31) . How do I physically identify a disk using the newer agile naming? Also is there a way to correlate the legacy to agile devices? I have done an ioscan (with -fnC and -fnNC) - and the disk numbers and addresses are different. Thanks

Re: how to verify disk identity in jbod
What JBOD model do you have?
Let's start with
# model
# ioscan -fn
# ioscan -fnN
# ioscan -m dsf
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: how to verify disk identity in jbod
Model is DS2405. Here is the output from those ioscans - I think you already answered part of my question with the
-m option of ioscan - this appears to compare the two. Is there a way then to physically identify disk 85? Thanks

Re: how to verify disk identity in jbod
> Is there a way then to physically identify disk 85?
With the ds2405 its a bit tricky. I have attached a ref document I had put together some time ago. Not sure of the source material anymore and its a bit dated (pre 11iv3), but should still help.
Look at the legacy H/W path first.
For disk85 this is: 0/3/1/0.8.0.255.0.6.0
The two digits after the .255 represent the bus ID and the target ID respectively. The physical location mapping is dependent on the enclosure ID setting of the ds2405. I *think* this directly represents the bus ID in the H/W path (shown 0 here). You can check physically or with STM. That would make ID 6 located in disk slot 7 according to the chart in the document.

Re: how to verify disk identity in jbod
Looks like more than 1 DS2405.
How many "A6255A" do you see in ioscan?
[cstm related stuff deleted, not available in 11.31}
>> For disk85 this is: 0/3/1/0.8.0.255.0.6.0
Agreed.
To verify, make the disk next to the disk in question "glow".
# dd if=/dev/rdsk/c6t5d0 of=/dev/null bs=1024k
you will see the green LED on the left disk next to slot 7 blinking on (I don't do this with disk in slot 7, because it may not work with a defective disk).
After replacing the disk run "ioscan" - you will see the disk still as "NO_HW". Take a look into syslog, you will find a message to use "scsimgr replace_wwid" now.
Important: before replacing the disk use
# pvchange -a N /dev/disk/disk85
otherwise you cannot do a "vgcfgrestore".
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
