Re: How we calculating the disk space approached by LVM

Hi:

A 'vgdisplay' of the volume group will show you the physical extent size as 'PE Size (Mbytes)'. This is your fundamental physical/logical extent size. The 'Free PE' is the number you have available within the volume group.

Regards!

Re: How we calculating the disk space approached by LVM

Hi

By Volume Group

vgdisplay

Note Free PE
Note PE Size in MB
Note Used PE

(free pe)*(PE Size)=Total Free MB
(used PE)*(PE Size)=Total Used MB

By Physical Volume or disk

pvdisplay /dev/rmt/c#t#d0

Same as above

By system

Same as above but also
SAM > Disks > will report for you unused PV's and size

Re: How we calculating the disk space approached by LVM

Shalom,

There are two general areas to think of.

Volume group planning. How many disks or LUNS will you need, what kind of capacity for THIS volume group will need to carry. Simply setting the -p number of physical disks or -s size of the extent in a vgcreate statement has large impact on eventual disk capacity.

Free space information is presented by vgdisplay for volume groups and pvdisplay for disks.

Re: How we calculating the disk space approached by LVM

Shalom,

As noted, a logical volume is a division of a volume group in which you store data.

Hi (again):

What part of my original answer didn't help you? This is basic math in a word problem.
