HP 9000 E 25 and HP-UX 10.20

Hi, I have an old hp9000 e25 and I tried to install 10.20 from a cd with no success.

I installed a cdrom drive in the system (scsi id 6) and a hdd (scsi id 0).

The I booted from cd.
The system asked me to boot from first available device and also asked me : "To discontinue press any kay within 10 seconds". I pressed anter (otherwise the hdd is not recognized by the system).

Then I pressed SEA
The result of sea was:
Path Number Device Path Device Type
=========== =========== ===========
P0 56/52.0(dec) random access media
P1 56/56.6(dec) random access
p2 60/6.0 (dec) LAN MODULE

I suppose p1 is the cdrom (because .6 means scsi id 6 (my cdrom)).

The I tried to boot from p1 to start the instaltion procedure.

So, the system again dont't detecty my hdd?

Also now the system asked me to search for devices again buy if I said "Y" the message is the same. The destination hdd is not found

What can I do ?

Wow, thats an old box.

Check the termination on the SCSI card/disks.

Open the box and make sure the cables are properly connected or NOT connected tothe SCSI cards.

Boot the box.

Interupt at the prompt if it has an older OS.

sea

Report results.

Re: HP 9000 E 25 and HP-UX 10.20

This really sounds like a termination issue, or possibly a bad disk.

There are quite a few threads on this subject already.

Here is one of interest:

Re: HP 9000 E 25 and HP-UX 10.20

I'm not sure is a hardware problem since, as I said, sea give me the hdd too.
The result of sea is :

P0 56/52.0(dec) random access med <--- MY HDD
P1 56/56.6(dec) random access med <-- MY CDROM
p2 60/6.0 (dec) LAN MODULE <--- NOT SURE

So, when I give a sea, p0 is my hdd.

but when I make a "bo p1", p0 appears to not be found anymore. Or maybe the INSTALLER tries to install on another path (not p0) ?

Is not possible to specify the instalation medium somehow ? (sometibg like BO p1 install P0) ???

Just my two cents

btw. On the hdd I want to use, there is no partition, so it's a really blank hdd. Should I prepare the hdd first ? how ?

First I would set the drive you want to load the OS on to ID 6 and change the CD to something else. ( usually 2 ) What size is the drive? Just because the drive shows up when you do a SEA does not mean the disk is good. Make sure you have everything terminated and if you can, try another drive. It sounds like a bad disk.

You either have a bad disk, or one without the proper firmware to boot from. If this is an HP drive, I would replace it with another if possible, and try again. I think the INSTALL program ignores disks with a size of zero, which is what the disk would show up as if it has failed.
