HP A4926A PCI 1000Base-SX Adapter

Hi!

Just a simple question (but not clear for me).
Which i/o throughput can I expect from a gigabit lan adapter on a SD16000, on terms of bytes in per second in & bytes out per second?
Best regards,

Juan-Luis

I don't know what the specs are for your specific configuration, but with Ethernet of any sort, you really can't expect to get much more than 60% of the actual bandwidth... ie: about 60MB/s aggregate throughput. If you can see 60MB/s or better, you're doing well.

Re: HP A4926A PCI 1000Base-SX Adapter

You may want to look at the performance whitepaper that HP has written on the topic:

http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/netcom/gbe_perf_final.pdf

If you are interested in maximizing performance, you should consider upgrading to the next generation Gigabit Ethernet solution:

Add-in 1000Base-T A6825-60101
Add-in 1000Base-SX A6847-60101
rp7410 core LAN A6794A

These solutions are available on HP-UX 11.0 and later for various server models.

Thanks.

Re: HP A4926A PCI 1000Base-SX Adapter

Ajit: that is a truely excellent white paper, wish I had seen it before. I hope that the team/author will revisit this, using an RP7410 or RP8400, and using the new Gig-E cards. The throughput shown in the whitepaper from the old Gig-E card wasn't as bad as I've heard (controlled conditions and all that), but the new PCI cards are supposed to be much more efficient. It would be nice to have this info, in a more modern context.

Any hope? Thanx again, this was very useful info.

I don't mean to hijack your question, Juan-Luis, this is still on-topic... just a little detour on our road to your answer.

Brian:

At your service....

http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/2176/GigE_rp7410_perf.pdf

is the performance whitepaper for the A6825-60101 and A6847-60101 on an rp7410 controlled by the igelan driver (HP-UX 11.11).

(This paper is also availabe in HTML format.)

In general, you will see all our whitepapers at:

Thanks.
