HP aC++ compiler issue

Hello everybody! Recently we migrated our database from HP-UX 11.0 to HP-UX 11.11. now issue is with HP aC++ compiler(S800). Since this is licensed software, i have few questions?
1) can we install this compiler from Application CD 11.0 ( for which license is assocaited) on HP-UX 11.11 OS? will lower version fileset cause any problem for the kernel?

2) Or Can we transfer the license to HP-UX 11.11 by requesting HP?

I'm interested in the first one as my customer is not ready to invest for this license again.

Has anybody tried the first option?

Thanking you in advance.

Shalom,

Option 1 may work due to backwards compatability. Its probably a bad idea though. No I have not tried it.

If you have a software contract that covers this, you can migrate our license to 11.11 usually at no extra charge.

Re: HP aC++ compiler issue

When 11.11 was brand new and before I had received an 11.11 version of aCC, I did install the 11.0 version on 11.11 and found no problems. I wouldn't suggest that you do this as you will be stuck at an obsolete compiler release and patches will be difficult. If you are under support then you can transfer the license and that is a far better option. Even if you need to buy a new compiler, that will be far less expensive than chasing down subtle bugs resulting from your effort to "save" money.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
