HP jetdirect 300x

My system run on HPUX 11i; I have a jetdirect 300x connect to a big printer BULL. I would like to know how could I configure my jetdirect 300x to print on that printer;
second i press the TEST bouton of the jetdirect to print the configuration but nothing was printed

I assume that your 300x is connected to the printer via a parallel cable and that the printer is "ON-LINE". Press the "TEST" button on the 300x and hold it down for about 5 seconds. A test page should print after a timeout period of 30-60 seconds.

Is your printer an ASCII printer or does it have an EBCDIC personality? Until you get the self-test to work there is no point in going further.

concerning the self test; I've connected a printer HP laserjet 1200 to the jetdirect 300x paralel port, and i pull on the test button and I get the self-test result page;
But when I put the big printer BULL Compuprint (the printer i would like to use)
in the 300x paralel port and make the self-test nothing is printed over this printer.
How can I do ascii configuration ?

You need to find a manual for your printer. There are many Compuprint models so just identifying it as a Bull Compuprint is not sufficient. It's possible that the parallel port is disabled. In any event, until you get this working, you are stuck. The jetdirect configuration is trivial compared to this.

The self-test I have made with the HP laserjet 1200 printer on jetdirect 300x have printed on the top page :

My problems are resolved; the problem was that the paralel wire was'nt plug-in very well; My big printer BULL print now; but the last problem is that when I made the self-test a have this heading :

HP jetdirect 300X (HPGL/ Configuration Page).

I found out some strange caracteres @SR,@LB,
That's why I would like to know how can I change the jetdirect 300X configuration from HPGL to ASCII

The 300X is designed to support several printer models but was not designed and tested on every printer (thousands). The selftest page is printing the strange leading characters becuase a short PCL escape sequence is being sent out prior to every line. An HP printer will see these characters and perform the desired action. From the Installation manual ( http://h200006.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/bpj06151/bpj06151.pdf ) the self test button can change the language to use for the selftest page. To change the detected printer language, use the LEDs and Test button to select a PDL for the configuration page. When you hold down the Test button for three seconds, the LEDs begin to cycle through four configurations, as outlined in the following table:

When you first press the Test button, the Status and Activity LEDs are on and solid for about 3-4 seconds. Then they switch off,
indicating they are cycling through the PDLs. These patterns will cycle continuously until you release the button. Be sure to release the button when you see the ASCII pattern and the selftest page will then print.

If the 300X has been reset, the IP address will be 192.0.0.192 which will likely not match your current network. You can telnet to this address but you'll have to create a route on your computer. Use this page to see how to add a route. Then you can telnet to the 300X and change the IP aaddress:

Once you have the IP address assigned to your local network (along with the subnet mask and gateway/router address, you can use SAM to add the printer as a "network printer". The printer type will be unknown so pick the "generic printer" option.
