HP N class Server can't fully ping all the hosts

I have HP N Class Server. I have installed HP-UX 11i v2 (2005)or version 11.23. I have assigned ip address to the Server. The Server can ping all the hosts in the Network but the various hosts can't ping the Server.I have try from Windows 2000 and xp computer but to no avail. But i have not install any patches yet. There is no firwall issue with my workstation.

The machines from where you can't ping to hp machine, do tracet/traceroute and see what is happening.
There is no substitute to HARDWORK

Re: HP N class Server can't fully ping all the hosts

How are you pinging ? Using ip address or host name ?
If using host name, then are the correct DNS entries exist ? Try nslookup servername

If using ip address, I cant see why it should not be able to ping other way round when you can ping out from this server to all other hosts.
Do you have firewall in between ?
If yes then you need to check if required ports are opened.

Hi,
if you are pinging the new server via DNS, DNS may not have an entry. Try pinging the new server via the ipaddress rather than hostname.

Re: HP N class Server can't fully ping all the hosts

hi

I am ping by ip and not by hostname. There is no firewall in between.I logon to the Server through Secure Web console. I have ping loopback it works.I also ping the Server own ip it works well. The problem is that i can't ping the unix from other host. But the Unix box can ping the the other host on the network.
