HP Router 650

We have been experiencing from time to time problems with HP routers 650, especially when new Windows software have been installed (the latest version of router 650 operating system is from 1998/1999). Windows 2000 DHCP can erase their configuration; now we sometimes get "Port Module slot x critical failure detected" where slot x has four port Ethernet card (HP J2435A). Of course the Ethernet card is OK. Router must be rebooted to function properly. Do you have some idea what could cause this problem and what to do to avoid it?
