One of my server rp4440 down could not restart up, we recovered it through Ignite-UX but all pathes and software packages are gone.
I tried to install some san pathes, secure pathes ... but all said need previous pathes…
For this situation, how to reinstall all the pathes, in other words which pathes are the basic pathes need be installed first and then install others patches.
Thanks.
Any answers will be very appreciate.

Re: HP rp server reocveried from Ignite-UX all pathes gone, how to install
Thanks for you fast reply.
My Ignite-UX OS image backup just a OS NOT include entire vg00, the archive file size just 400MB. Yes I backed up another server via enir_vg00 the size around 12GB.
So, pathes, software package ... not in the archive file after Ignite-UX recovery all of them gone, as you know # swlist nothing.
what's is the nickel?

Unless you save/restore the IPD in /var/adm/sw/, your system is next to useless.

Re: HP rp server reocveried from Ignite-UX all pathes gone, how to install
Just out of curious.
Is the swagentd deamon is running on the system. If not, try
/usr/sbin/swagentd -r

Re: HP rp server reocveried from Ignite-UX all pathes gone, how to install
Really you should check if the software daemon is running (swagent). You should also check the stucture of /var with a different box. Do you have log files like /var/adm/sw/swinstall.log?

Re: HP rp server reocveried from Ignite-UX all pathes gone, how to install
Clearly you used either the wrong Ignite image or an incorrectly built image.
Choices:
1) Find a better one that includes your apps
2) Install OS patches from patch database and reinstall your applications.

Re: HP rp server reocveried from Ignite-UX all pathes gone, how to install
Hi Dennis, Rasheed, Steve and SEP
Thank you very much for your kindly hand and good suggestions.
As you know whatever I installed any pathes, away failed due to "need previously pathes " I once tried to install GOLDQPK11i_B.11.11.0706.467.depot, HP support said it's the basic pathes (337), is that right? But failed, 337 of 337 all be skipped. Probably it caused by "swagentd deamon" is not running but just now I complete installed the per into system.
Steve,
the pathes that I mentioned is system pathes, kernel pathes all pathes (500?), PHSS_ PHKL_ â ¦. All of them were gone after Ignite-UX recovery.
SEP
I'm sure I used the correct Ignite-UX archive, but this archive made just a basic OS not include entire vg00. In the period of OS recovery the Ignite-UX said maybe the server and client Ignite-UX version not the same it would cause some data could not be recoveredâ ¦ But both server and client are all Ignite-UX C6.1.44â ¦ why Ignite-UX said that. But anyway, the pathes and all applications were ALL gone, swlist â ¦ nothing.
Question:
Ignite-UX make_net_recovery from server GUI, whatever I choose basic OS image or entire vg00, all pathes and all applications should be included in Ignite-UX image archive tar file, is that right? If so, in the future Ignite-UX backup I will still keep this way As you know entire vg00 need over around 3GB disk size. If not, then I will change OS backup method to whole vg00 and I must say that option of Ignite-UX - basic OS image doesn't' make sense.
Hi SEP
You said
2) Install OS patches from patch database and reinstall your applications.
Would you please tell me which pathes or pathes bundle need be installed first, as you know sometime we install some pathes like SAN, system will require some other pathes support and some other pathes installation need others else support â ¦ so which one is the basic one, GOLDQPK11i version 2008?
How to reinstall all of my applications, I mean, from HP which CD include most of the application and software package? HP-UX 11i v1 Application Software 7CD?
Thanks you very very much again

Re: HP rp server reocveried from Ignite-UX all pathes gone, how to install
Do you have a backup of your system?
Do you have a backup of the IPD in /var/adm/sw/?
If not, you should just cold install HP-UX and start all over. Possibly saving the system configuration.
>but this archive made just a basic OS not include entire vg00.
This needs to include all of the IPD. Or you must restore the IPD separately.
>all applications should be included in Ignite-UX image archive tar file,
You should really backup your applications and data with a separate backup tool, not ignite.

Re: HP rp server reocveried from Ignite-UX all pathes gone, how to install
Thank you very much for your reply. Few more questions:
>Do you have a backup of your system?
Yes, data backup through Data Protector tape library. But just backup some Oracle and App mount points. Not incude any system mount points like /etc,/var,/usr,/stand ... Do we need backup those? If so, would you please tell me which fileset need be backed up as it's very important, like /etc, /var, entire /opt for applications?
>Do you have a backup of the IPD in /var/adm/sw/?
What's the IPD? I don't backup /var through tape. Do you suggest me schedule /var/adm/sw full backup through Data Protector?
>This needs to include all of the IPD. Or you must restore the IPD separately.
IPD? Does it default be "tar"ed in Ignite-UX basic OS image (not entir_vg00) archive file?
>You should really backup your applications and data with a separate backup tool, not ignite.
Sure. Would you please tell me how to backup system application like Data protector, Ignite-UX, printer applicaotn etc. FULL backup /opt?
Thanks a again.

Re: HP rp server reocveried from Ignite-UX all pathes gone, how to install
I bet IPD means Internal Patch Database (you would call it Internal Pathe Database?). I would guess this is some files and directories under /var that help define what software is on the computer.
You mentioned you back up some oracle application mount points with Data Protector.
I also use Data Protector. And if you chose to back up a couple of filesystems on the computer, you would have seen all filesystems that could be backed up. Not just oracle. So I would be surprised that you purposely chose to NOT back up your data along with oracle. (But I don't know how you run your disaster recovery processes anyway).
Do you periodically run commands to see the layout of the system?
Stuff like "vgdisplay -v", "ioscan -fn", "bdf", "netstat", "lvlnboot -v", and.... "swlist"? If so, you can use those to get a better feeling on if the ignite restore worked correctly. I am assuming you periodically move the results of these commands to another computer.
I would immediately compare the bdf command on the current system with an old print out of the bdf command. You should be /var mounted and how much data is on it. If var is not mounted, you wouldn't be able to use it. Therefore swlist would fail. Perhaps /var is not mounted. You are able to run commands on the system you restored with ignite. But is the system fully up?

Re: HP rp server reocveried from Ignite-UX all pathes gone, how to install
Well, if you don't have an ignite backup of those, you do.
>would you please tell me which fileset need be backed up as it's very important, like /etc, /var, entire /opt for applications?
I would expect ignite to backup /etc, /var, /usr, /sbin. Your data backup should get /opt.
>What's the IPD? I don't backup /var through tape. Do you suggest me schedule /var/adm/sw full backup through Data Protector?
See Steve's answer below. You need to backup /var/adm/sw if you want the system to know what products/patches you have. The big directories:
du -kxs /var/adm/sw/*
114616 /var/adm/sw/products
3560 /var/adm/sw/queue
1935528 /var/adm/sw/save
13544 /var/adm/sw/save_custom
>Does it default be "tar"ed in Ignite-UX basic OS image (not entire_vg00) archive file?
I assume in the entire vg00. The output from ignite will tell you.
>Would you please tell me how to backup system application like Data protector, Ignite-UX, printer application etc. FULL backup /opt?
Yes, /opt/. Printer configurations are in
/etc/lp /var/spool/lp.
crontabs are in /var/spool/cron/.
>Steve: means Internal Patch Database
No, Installed Product Database.
>I would guess this is some files and directories under /var that help define what software is on the computer.
Exactly, in /var/adm/sw/.
I'm not sure this can be used if the whole IPD is missing:
