Hi,

In your root filesystem there should be two links, one from /lib to /usr/lib and one from /bin to /usr/bin.

Both link are missing, normally you could recreate the links with the tlinstall command, but you need to be root.

You could try to copy (scp,ftp etc) from a good hpux system to the other, or you could restore the links from your back-up.

so I guess you can't get to root when you run:

su -

or

su - root

But can you get to root from running:

su

or

su root

That should give you root without running roots profile. The root user *shouldn't* require access to any libraries to get the shell running, as roots shell *should* be /sbin/sh which is a statically linked shell.

If you've changed root's shell to something else... well you broke your own system... time to look for backups...

dear all,
please have a look into my server issue if any body knows any new updates into this issue then please inform me.

i cant able to login into root..

i cant able to login into ftp root..

i dont have back up..

i dont have any alternate root users..

i only access the user login..

i want to execute tlinstall,tlremove for restore the removed link..which is not available as root login is not possible.

please help me out into this serious issue.

Then you must boot in single user mode.

You may not need it.

What can you do? If /usr/lib/dld.sl exists and works for a user, then root should have no problems. Unless root is trying to execute some old 9.0 application that requires a tlink?

You don't need those. You can use /sbin/ln in single user mode.

After you get it working, you need to find out which application needs /lib/dld.sl and throw it away.

Oh, you might want to check ~root/.profile and see what is being done there? Or in /etc/profile checking for root?

hello all,

now i am login into my server via console in single user mode.

now the issue is that i cant take the copy of the passwd file from /etc directory.

and there is no entry for bin in /usr directory, so can any body give some hint into this issue.

please help me out as early as possible.

# mount -a
# cp /etc/passwd /etc/old.passwd
# tlinstall

I login with the Console application and then i rename the passwd file in /etc folder and execute the following command.

mount-a
tlinstall

i solve the issue. thanks robert,avinash.
