Hp-ux 10.20:disk broken.What to do ?

Hi, I post last days two threads about the crash of our Hp-ux 10.20 system.
First I get a
9245XB PDT VFS_MOUNT ROOT failed, then after running the Hp-ux recovery cd a BAD SUPER BLOCK:MAGIC NUMBER WRONG and, after applying all the help given here (only the command #chroot /ROOT /sbin/sh # vgchange -a y /dev/vg00 could not be executed) I get back a 9245XB PDT VFS_MOUNT ROOT failed.
I was never be able to run the fsck command.
I notice that after the initial ipl, the first hard drive makes a sound like "clack!".
So, is the hard drive out of service ?
If so, I have a problem. First because I have to find a new hard disk 4.3 DF, second because this machine was set up before I arrive from an external software house that was also our previous management software provider (now we use a windows based software). So I don't really know how they partitioned and installed Hp-ux 10.20, oracle 7 and their software. But I have a backup tape.
Is there a very kind person who can give me all the main steps I have to do to recover the system ? As always happens, after 4 years we pass to the new software, now the boss wants some data that's only on the old database ...
Here I provide you all the data I have:

HP 9000 D270/1 800 series
two Hard disk 4.3 DF (8/12.5.0 and 8/12.8.0)
one Dat tape
one CdRom

Last boot message:
BOOT
:disc (8/12.5.0;0) /stand/vmunix
Warning:Open failed on device 0x1F005000 error 0x10
Cannot read LVM BOOT information (LVMREC)
Cannot read LVM BOOT information (BDRA)

9245XB ....

When running Up-ux recovery cd a lvm volume c0t8d0s1lvm is found.

Thanks a lot,
Tanja

Re: Hp-ux 10.20:disk broken.What to do ?

You seem to have followed correct procedures for recoverying your system.

The problem is you have a bad disk and do not seem to have corrected that.

Suggestions:

1) Replace the disk and restore the system with a recent make_tape_recovery backup, then restore data from tape.

2) Move the good disk to a working system, use lvm import functions to import the data and hope the data you are looking for is on the disk.

Re: Hp-ux 10.20:disk broken.What to do ?

Ok. So now I have to search for a very old hard disk....
When I have it, I can restore directly the backup tape booting from Recovery Cd or I have to make a new install from Hp-ux Install Cd and then on a new working installation from command line make the make_tape_recovery ?

Thanks,

Tanja
