HP-UX 10.20 Memory Buckets and FTP sessions
We have an HP-UX 10.20 machine that is initiating or recieving around 6000 wuftp sessions/day. We have noticed a degradation in system performance recently and are wondering if a reboot will solve the problem.
Is anyone aware of any ftp related problems such as non-release of memory buckets?
Thanks
Pete

Re: HP-UX 10.20 Memory Buckets and FTP sessions
I don't know of any 10.20 ftpd bugs with memory leaks; you might have other resource issues and/or conflicts. Unfortunately 10.20 doesn't have much in the way of unsupported tools to check for memory leaks online. If you need to get further tech support before you reboot, you might want to open up a software call.
FYI the current patch for 10.20 ftpd is PHNE_22057.

Re: HP-UX 10.20 Memory Buckets and FTP sessions
Do you have any servers / machines that could be initiating the ftp to your 10.20 server?
Also where are you seeimg the errors and at what times do they occur (regular? only during normal work hours?)

Re: HP-UX 10.20 Memory Buckets and FTP sessions
Actually the server is running as a messaging hub so the large number of ftp connections is intentional. We are using the HP ftpd for receiving and wuftp for sending. It looks like we have not got that 10.20 ftpd patch (PHNE_22057) installed so we will look into having that put on so thanks again for the pointer.
Cheers
Pete

Re: HP-UX 10.20 Memory Buckets and FTP sessions
ftp://ftp.cup.hp.com/dist/networking/briefs might be helpful. Actually, the data for the A180C might be old enough that I _might_ have even done 10.20 numbers, but I cannot recall.
