HP-UX 11.11 for PA-RISC run slow

I do have a workstation Visualize with PA-RISC processor 750mhz and 36 gig hard drive and 1 gig of memory with a two gig swap space on the hard drive. The issue is everything rub slow on the machine like booting it up will take 30 minutes. I was wondering what can I do to speed up the machine. SWINSTALL might take hours to install a basic patch. Than you in advance.

Re: HP-UX 11.11 for PA-RISC run slow

Hi Nik..

Check display When boot time which phase is problem.
ex)/sbin/rc2.d/S430nfs.client ==> if server is take long time this phase, type ^\ to skip. and after boot modify with vi editor.
# vi /etc/rc.config.d/nfsconf

And check your Network configuration.
/etc/hosts, /etc/rc.config.d/netconf,
/etc/nsswitch.conf, /etc/resolv.conf...
If you are no need DNS service remove nsswitch.conf, resolv.conf file.

Have a nice day..

Re: HP-UX 11.11 for PA-RISC run slow

First, let's find out, what is making it slow.
1. For faster boot up, do not start the daemons/apps that you do not want to get started at boot time. Customize /etc/rc?.d dirs. Check you start and kill scripts. For startup only startup scripts.

2. Do you notice any slowness, when machine boots up? If yes what kind of slowness? Do you have glance? With it, check if you see any bottleneck on the system-cpu, memory, disk, swap or network. Do you see anything in syslog.log or in dmesg?

3. Check top cpu and memory uasing processes.

Shalom,

Most common cause for this is patching, assuming you are not really overworking the system.

Check performance if you wish:
