HP-UX 11.23 GSP port unable to login to Console

Hi All,

Could someone sched some light and help me with the GSP console login.

I am currently able to login as root via ssh on the server, no issue.
I was able to connect to the GSP console with root user but now it seems I can't anymore. (I now the '@' sign is tricky with the console port but it is not used.)

What happened in between, I had to change the root password to some new one.

Is there an option to unlock the root console login or some other settings I should check ?

There is no @ in the password, but how about #?

Something is wrong in this combination:

server/username/password

Stupid question: sure you are on the right server? ;-)

username is root, right?
I don't expect problems here :-))

password - check typing. sometimes different applications (on windows) have another keyboard mapping - this happens already to me (z became y ...).

if only I was on the wrong server that would be a relief !
Same thing goes for the keyboard mapping (my workstation is a Linux system and I checked to be sure I have the good characters )

And for the user yes, it is root.

But right now what I also fid weird, is that I can't change the passwd , it tells me the old password is not correct ?

you may have a restriction of login directly as root from console

login as normal user and try to switch!

I think so.

Something went wrong while changing the password last time. But you did the same thing twice (repeat the password while changing).


I wonder why the system is asking you about the old password:

# passwd
Changing password for root
New password:
Re-enter new password:
Passwd successfully changed

okay I don't really know the impact, but now the password change is working fine.

what I did, I removed the ":u_pwd" line from the /tcb/files/auth/r/root

But still the console loging is arguing.
Also the root console login is allowed, I already managed to connect to before I had this issue.

Any other ideas ? Should I synchronize both login ?

Hi,
Other files to look at are /etc/securetty and /opt/ssh/etc/sshd.config. You may want to move
securetty away and enable root in sshd.config
restart sshd just to test...

Hi IDT,

Well the /etc/securetty is not present on the system and root is already able to connect to via ssh.

Actually SSH is working fine but the issue lies with the GSP console loging.

Can you reset the GSP port? You should be able to cntl-B and there should be a option to reset the GSP port. I think it's DX but just do a LI to list the commands.
