HP-UX 11 i v3 = rx2660 out of 5 disk three only configured under RAID5

I have 5 disk of 146GB with RAID5 and out of 5 disk three only configured during my OS 11iv3 enterprise configuration on rx2660 server. and rest two disk UNASSIGED.

My Question is how i can use UNASSIGNED two disk to make new volume group as my per my client request.

I appreciate all who help me to sort this issue at the earliest.

Hi I see that you have purchased the server with the optional Smart Array P400 SAS controller.
Take a look at the user manual for the saconfig command:

The command to create a new logical drive is:

saconfig /dev/cissX -R [-S ] -p
There's an example on that page

Once you have a logical drive, you can create a VG that contains it.

Thanks for your help as system configured with default vg00 , Do you above reply suggest me to create new one as vgabc and include those UNASSIGNED two disk to this group.

or you have different meaning of above reply . please clear me .........

I repeat my question , I like to include those UNASSIGED two disk into the vg00 or if i can only present the disk without raid also no problem to create space for client required vxfs group etc.....

Iam awaiting for your valuable response to solve this query.


Today i make UNASSIGNED disk as SPARE disk via this command #saconfig /dev/ciss0 -A 0 -s A1:3:4 .......... disk status changed to SPARE.

But how can i ADD SPARE disk to the logical drive .......... i tried this command but it didnt worked out ......#saconfig /dev/ciss0 -A -s 0 A1:3:4.

How to represent SPARE disk to logical drive.

You can add those UNASSIGNED disks to the existing RAID (expand the RAID) or create a new RAID with them.
Then you can create logical drives and those logical drives will be seen by LVM. You can add those volumes to VG00 or use them to create a VG01.

In your first message you said that you wanted to create a new VG.
