hi,

TOC is transfer of control. When a system hangs rather than just rebooting the system (by powering it off and on), the general practice is to do TOC. TOC will dump the system memory contents into dump volume as per the definition of your Savecrash configuration.

This saved dump can then be used to debug the problem by running q4 and other analysis on it. (which is done by HP).

Regarding your problem, when you say HANG , is the system totally inaccessible? can you ping to it? Can you telnet to it?? The crash dump is the best bet to debug it, since the reasons could be varied. (recently one of my crashed systems needed a FIbre channel patch!).
