HP-UX 11i v2 and APC UPS'

Hi,

We've just purchased some rp34x0 series servers that we intend to run HP-UX 11iv2 ( 64-bit ) on.

We've also purchased an APC SU2200RM UPS. But APC is telling me they don't support PowerChutePlus or PowerChute Network Shutdown in 64-bit mode.

Has anyone else bumped into this?
Are there work-arounds?
Will ups_mond work with the APC UPS'?

Hi,

We use Powerchute with HP-UX 11.0 & 11i without no problem.
We configured it to use UPS port and it can shutdown our servers.

The APC software is all Java code so you just add the software to the Java library per the instructions. This is one of those areas where Java is pretty much platform independent--including 64bit. I have replaced all my K-class racks with APC units and find the built-in web page exceedingly versatile to setup email, SNMP and syslog notifications. It is quite reassuring to know the hardware is actually monitoring the health of the batteries and can email me when something is out of spec.

(and to answer the question about ups-mond, no, this code is designed only for the old Sola units that HP OEM'ed) Unlike SCSI, the UPS manufacturers don't have a widely used standard.

Does that mean I just have to ask APC to send me the "HP-UX" version and I don't have to be concerned about whether it is 32 bit or 64 bit?

Actually, you just download the Unix/Linux Java code. I just contacted APC support to get the URL (their search engine did not find the package).

Thanks for the confirmation. I assumed I'd have to download something since HP-UX wasn't included on their CD.

The "Java" aspect clears thing up.

I'll contact APC today.
