HP-UX 11iV3 \ npar \multiple operating \rx2660 itanium server

Hi,

Present scenario is HP-UX 11iv3, installed on 140GB DRIVE and 500GB space used for DB AND APPLICATION.

For another operation system (2003) can i create npar partition on rx2660 integrity server on above configuration.

IF Yes:

Provide me relevant docs to setup a new partition for new OS 2003 in present existing server.

Need your valuable output to solve this issue at the earliest.............

No.

nPars aren't supported on the rx2660. Only cell based systems (rx7640, rx8640 and Superdome) support nPars.

You could of course run HP Integrity Virtual Machines if you have the software.

For multiple OS on a non cell based Integrity server at the same time you need to go with Integrity virtual machines.

BTW; "Only cell based systems (rx7640, rx8640 and Superdome) support nPars."

Minor correction: All cell based systems and a few non-cell based pa-risc machines support vPars (legacy rp7400 and rp5470 IMHO for historical reasons).

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: HP-UX 11iV3 \ npar \multiple operating \rx2660 itanium server

This isn't Linux or Solaris... HP-UX software costs *money*

That said, there is a trial version of Integrity VMs available here:

http://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=integrity_vm1131

A couple of points:

1. You'll need to be on the 0809 (Sept 2008) release of 11iv3 at least to install this.

2. After you install this, your host becomes a VM host, and you can't run *any* apps on the host - instead you create VM guests and run seperate instances of the OS inside those. You could easily create a HP-UX VM guest and a windows VM guest on this system, assuming you have sufficient memory.

3. You are clear on what version of Windows you can run on an Integrity server aren't you? You *cannot* run the x86 or x64 version of Windows - only the ia64 version.

Documentation on HPVM software is here:

http://docs.hp.com/en/vse.html#HP%20Integrity%20Virtual%20Machines

Please don't post more questions before you've made the effort to RTFM at least a little.
