Re: hp-ux installation
Possible issues:
1) bad media
2) the cd has been ejected during the installation
3) The terminal emulation is not compatible with the Ignite install program.
For 11i the terminal emulation on a real serial console needs to be set to em100 otherwise the menus looko a little garbled and are nearly impossible to use.
As far as doing it on a PC with hyperterminal, that seems to be a recipe for frustration. I do menial things like resetting a locked root password this way, not installs.

Solution
Hi,
The problem is that it is selecting "recovery" instead of "fresh install". If it is selecting it automatically, then I would look at the settings of your terminal emulation software. Try with different TERMS like vt220, HP etc., Once you get your terminal fixed, then you will be able to comfortably select the options from the list.

You may be disappointed if you fail, but you are doomed if you don't try
