HP-UX printing issue.

I am having an issue with printing. My users' local print queues seem to be disabling randomly. I have an Oce TDS400 with its own controller, a network HP printer with a queue set up on an SGI server, and a network HP1055 plotter that is connected via a Jet Direct card. Once the printers/plotters disable, I cannot re-enable the local queues unless I restart the scheduler. I tried an lpsched -v but the logs show nothing and I tried adding a nohup in front of the lpsched command in /sbin/init.d/lp. I explored the possibility of file types causing the queues to disable but tests were inconclusive. Does anyone have any suggestions?

When the print queue hangs, do hpnpadmin -v. Does it report anything.

Re: HP-UX printing issue.

hpnp is not installed on the systems. I am not using Jet Direct at all on the unix stations. This is a fairly new issue as the users were able to print with no problem before.

Re: HP-UX printing issue.

Where does print queue seem to hang?? On hp-ux?? When this happens, is the printer OK?? Is it out of papaer. paper jam etc. at that time?

How print queue is configured on hp-ux??

Re: HP-UX printing issue.

The printers are working fine. The print requests never leave the local queues because the queues become disabled. I try to re-enable, but they continually disable until I restart the scheduler. Then it works for awhile... Each of the queues are set up differently in SAM. The LaserJet printer is set up as a local printer on an SGI server so in SAM have have it set up as 'printername on servername'(ie. halyardq12 on apo1). On the hp1055 and tds400, the setup is plottername on plottername(ie. tds400 on tds400). The TDS400 is set up this way because it has it's own controller.

It is almost as if the scheduler on these workstations is losing communication with the printers somehow is just giving up. I can ping all printing devices with no lost packets.

I don't know if I'm up to date. I am running hp-ux B11.00 A. I will check for updates on the printing.

Re: HP-UX printing issue.

So the printers are configured as remote printers on hp-ux? Is there firewall in between?? ad approparite ports opened between them?? Did you notce any network problems?? On the host where the printers have been configured a s native printers, do you get any errors when this happens??
