HP-UX "version 9" i think

I have like an OLD machine that only say its HP and runs HP-UX, and an Apollo 700 Series that I only know is using Unix.. of somesort with a nice GUI that integrates a mouse... please I cannot get past the password and login screens on either and we just want to get them working and be able to turn them off properly.. plz help me ppl

Yank the power cord. It's really your only choice if the box is powered up. Next allow the machine to boot. Depending onn the model the sequence varies but generally press during the boot and the machine you bring ypu to the firmware monitor.

Select BOOT PRI
Interact with IPL or ISL? y
hpux -is

The will bring you up in single-user mode as root. You can then set the root password and boot normally.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Shalom Oni,

If nobody knows the root password, the only option at hand is to power cycle the machine and follow the instructions above.

HP-UX version 9 is way, way out of support and its doubtful a machnine that old can serve any useful purpose other than to consume electricity. Even using to learn Unix is of doubtful usefulness.

ok heres more info on the machine

its a Apollo series 700 model 735, 99 mhz version. the system seems to skip the isl or ipl part and boots normally( no chance to enter hpux-is

disconnect the disk, power up, wait the failing boot, then reconnect the disk and do a search
