HP-UX reinstallation and activation of volume groups ...

Hi everybody ..

I am currently busy with a re-instalation of HP-UX B 11.11 OS -This is not a problem - OS is on the VG00 and a have a lots of data on vg01 (Oracle application stuff etc ..) which is by itself OK -So I would like to re-install HP-UX OS B.11.11 (FOE in place of TCOE licence ,new patches en HP-UX B.11.11 from the scratch on vg00) and then re-activate the volume group vg01 -since it is Ok by itself and has no meaning to re-create it from the scratch and the re-fill from the back-up -take too much time ...

I have saved ioscan -fn and vgdisplay -v and a bunch of other important files (fstab, lvmtab etc ...)

So in theory I could re-install HP-UX and then just re-activate the vg01 to become visible l since the data is just sittnig there ..

Well- I have general idea how to do but I have never done it before in practice -So could you kindly explain me ( those who have done it before in practice ) how precisely to go about it ,which information I have to collect more and if there are any pitfalls in this aquired from exerience -Since it I would not like to schrew it up ...

I thank you in advance for your time and effort

Shalom,

Take a look at /etc/lvmrc

It handles auto activation. It is often changed to not autoactivate shared vg's because a ServiceGuard script needs to activate.

Re: HP-UX reinstallation and activation of volume groups ...

IMO the easiest way is to create a mapfile of vg01

vgexport -p -s -m vg01.mapfile vg01

save that on another machine
rebuild your machine.
mkdir /dev/vg01
mknod /dev/vg01/group c 64 0x010000
copy the map back to the machine you rebuilt.
vgimport -s -m vg01.mapfile vg01
