There are several ways to clone the backing store for a VM.
If you can present both storage devices to the same Host/VM then probably the easiest/safest way is to use DRD.

This will clone the source disk to the target disk and also allows you to rename etc. at the same time, if you wish. If you have a problem with the clone copy, then you can recover back to the original target disk.
Other options are backup/restore, Ignite-UX Golden Image, HPVM Migration.

I think DRD only works for root Disk. we have a sap Database on VMs.
