HPUX 11.00 OE cannot discover NICs

I just rebuilt my OE UX11.00 on a system. I have downloaded all the required patches and bundles including the HWE1100.depot. '

I have 3 NICs in my system one of them is recognized by the OE but the other two have not been discovered.

How can I get these to work and do I need a special set of patches that will support my LAN NICs?

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: HPUX 11.00 OE cannot discover NICs

Shalom,

1) What is the hardware?
2) What is the date of the OS release. Only the very latest has any chance of supporting the NICs.
3) Why are you using 11.00 which is out of support some 7 months now?

Re: HPUX 11.00 OE cannot discover NICs

Hi,

Well two L class server, and we are a storage virtualization software company, and we solely use these systems to verify that we can discover fiber channel storage. I also use thin in a simple MCSG config to verify that the cluster can use the FC disks.

I have had to rebuild both systems, and our version of MCSG can only be unlocked with HPUX11.00 from Nov of 1999.

So Im stuck with using 11.00 and then installing MCSG and updating patches. So far I have updated this system with every patch I could download but can't get the other two NICs to show up.

I also have HPUX 11i but the CD does not contain the upgrade-ux command and I cannot find it anywhere to download so that I could upgrade this system to 11i.

Therefore I am where I am now, and ideas?

Re: HPUX 11.00 OE cannot discover NICs

There is either a driver missing or you installed the NICs in unsupported slots. Is it a L1000?

Hope this helps!

Re: HPUX 11.00 OE cannot discover NICs

Yes it is an L1000. When I install 11i all the nics are discovered and configurable. Is it possible to copy the LAN drivers from an 11i OE cd to and install them on an 11.00 system? If so which files and how?

Thanks,
Darius.

Re: HPUX 11.00 OE cannot discover NICs

It now sounds as though you are simply missing the drivers --- and no, you can't use the 11.11 versions. Unlike 11.11, the Network drivers (except for the built-in NIC's) are found in the Application CD sets (almost always on Disk 1). Look for any 11.0 Application CD's set and you should have them.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

What would be the exact name of the drivers on the application CDs?

Re: HPUX 11.00 OE cannot discover NICs

What type of cards do you have and where they are?

Be aware, slots 4, 5, 6, 7 are disabled in L1000.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

How in the Wide World of Sports would I know? You haven't bothered to identify your NIC model(s).

In any event, mount the cd and do something similer to "swlist -s /cdrom | pg". Look for things similar to "100BT / 9000 PCI" or "1000 Base-T PCI Ethernet Driver". In many cases, you will see the Part/Model No. corresponding to the NIC in the output as well.

Re: HPUX 11.00 OE cannot discover NICs

They are located in slots 1,2,9,10. 2 is connected to the secure web console, and I have access to the system via that nic. The ones in 9 and 10 are used for MCSG heartbeat and are model HP B5509-66001 BE0B74404YH 10/100 Fast Ethernet type.

Re: HPUX 11.00 OE cannot discover NICs

Thanks everyone,

I found the solution to my problem. The drivers were on my application CDs as Clay suggested.
