HPUX 11, 11i installation both fails
Whenever I try to install HPUX (I have done this many times with the same CDs on the same machine successfully in the past), it crashes half way through when processing the following package:
NFS.NFS-ENG-A-MAN
The error is internal uncompression routine (funzip).
The only change to the system is that I removed the 2 68 pin disks and replaced them with 2 larger SCA 80 pin disks with an adapter to convert to 68 pin SE SCSI. Veritas Volume Manager and LVM have no problems recognizing and using the disks and creating all the necessary volumes and file systems, so I am not certain that the disks are directly to blame.
Any ideas?

Re: HPUX 11, 11i installation both fails
Are they the same kind of scsi as the card they are hung off of? The old disks were High Voltage Differential Single Ended SCSI. If the new ones are Low Voltage Differential, they may be fried by now.
I would suggest perhaps trying a different Core OS set. This core OS set may have a specific issue with your disks.
Have you tried pushing a shell and looking at the condittion of the system at the time of failure?

Re: HPUX 11, 11i installation both fails
I just tried again with HPUX 11.0 (2001), and it crashed on the package Networking.LAN_KRN with the error
"cannot find Lan hardware".
Yet before installation, the LAN hardware is detected fine. And when I exit out to a shell and reboot, DHCP is working fine, though the installation is corrupt and only half installed (missing files in /sbin etc).

Re: HPUX 11, 11i installation both fails
Seagate ST15150W Barracuda 4 4GByte SCSI 2 FW
and
Seagate ST39140W Medalist 9GB Ultra Wide SE SCSI 68 pin
They are now replaced by 2 of:
Seagate ST318437LC (LVD/SE) 18GB disks.
And are connected to the SE SCSI using 2 of:
SCA80 Female to SCSI-3 Female (Micro D 68)

Re: HPUX 11, 11i installation both fails
My reason for concluding this is this:
The isntall if NFS failed which requires networking.
The second install failed on a NIC error.
Its possible for the NIC to work fine before the installation. It might have failed or gotten flakey during installation.
It also might be an error in the network configuration you are putting into the install/ignite interface.
I assume this is a 100 BaseT NIC. You should check that your network switch port settings are manual. I've seen switch port setting cause this problem with Ignite image transfers which use a lot of the same technology.
I fuzzily recognize your disk type and believe you may be okay in that area. If the new disks are SE I can't see how they are creating the problem.
Lastly the latest stable release of 11i is June 2004. I think you should consider trying that. At this point I expect that install to fail until the underlying problem is solved.
