HPUX 11 Software Discontiuned Support & Patches

From a recent new letter outlining that HPUX 11.00 to be discontinued as of 2/29/04....
Questions:
1) Is the 2/29/2004 date specifically implies that the HPUX 11.00 to be discontinued from sales and marketing or does it also include support as well?

2) What is the date that the HPUX 11.00 operating system will no longer be supported?

3) For customer's who have exsisting installations of HPUX 11.00, will HPUX Quality Patch Bundles and specific security patches be available after 2/29/2004?

You can still get 10.20 patches and bundles last I checked.

So there is little to worry about now. There comes a point where HP decides to move their efforts away from the OS.

You have plenty of time to migrate to 11i.

The 11.0 will be obsoleted by 12/31/06. You won't get any updates for that version nor any new patches after 12/31/06. However, the old and released patches might still be available from the site.

I think the 2/29/04 date is referencing when the HPUX 11.0 will not longer be sold. The is no specific dates defining when Quality Patch Bundles or Individual patches would not be available. Myself as well as many others on my unix team are seeking more specific dates. This is in an effort as to plan with the customer as to when to begin the upgrades to HPUX 11i.

Hi LG,

That 12/31/06 would be the date that no NEW patches or bundles would be released. It's possible security patches may be issued, but no more General Release patches or bundles would be released. Access to patches already available by that date will remain for some time, however.

It would be prudent & definitely showing due diligence to have all clients migrated to 11iv1 or higher prior to that date I'd say.

HP-UX 11.00 is being removed from hte Price List on March 31st 2004.
This means you will no longer be able to order HP-UX 11.00.
It also means that this is the last date that teh Quality Pack and Hardware Enablement patch bundles will be updated.
rom htis date on, new patches will be provided as per normal, but they will NOT go into the HWE or QPK bundles.
Support for 11.00 is ending in 2006

The two dates are similar to the way 10.20 was handled. Late 2001 was the last time you could buy 10.20 HP-UX and the last patch bundle (SupportPlus) was Dec 2001. However, it was 'supported' through June 2003. There were occasional security patches but nothing else during that time. Now, after June 2003 there have been no new patches for 10.20 and although there is a special support contract available to extend 'support' through summer 2004, new patches during that time must be purchased for 10.20. I would assume the same for 11.00 and the 2006 timeframe. NOTE: 11.00 is 1996 code so 2006 would make this release 10 years old.
