hpux -1g

Hi all,

I've recently encountered this boot string in a disk's AUTO file:
"hpux -1g (;0)/stand/vmunix"

I've never ever seen this "-1g" option, and I don't know what it means (if anything). I can't seem to find any reference to it anywhere.

Can any of you enlighten me ?

Thanks in advance !

Cheers,
Wout

Re: hpux -1g

Hi,

never seen that, what does lifcp command returns?

lifcp :AUTO -

for example:
lifcp /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0:AUTO -

Best regards,
Fabio

Re: hpux -1g

That's how I found out it is onthere ;-)

I've e-mailed the question to HP as well, should they know I'll make sure to post it.

Re: hpux -1g

ooops...sorry, I thought that was the string in AUTO file during the boot.
Anyway I'm not sure there is an explaination, rather I think that is an error. I tried to test that string on a my HP-UX 11.11 system and the boot failed, I found the system onto ISL> prompt.

So are you sure the system booted fine with that string? I would suggest to modify that by mkboot:

mkboot -a "hpux"

I think hpux should be enough to boot fine the system.

Best regards,
Fabio

Re: hpux -1g

well...i can understand it being
"hpux -lq...." (thats lowercase LQ)

which lets mirrored disk systems boot w/o disk qourum (as in failed drive). If it truely is -1g, then I'd assume it's a typo...or that somebody read "lq" as "1g".

what's the string on the primary boot vol look like?

Re: hpux -1g

Yes, I'm planning to change it to "hpux -lq" (since it is a mirrored boot disk).

I was just wondering where this strange parameter was coming from.. I'm starting to think it must have been an 'oops' by someone.

Thanks a bunch for giving it a test run overthere, appreciate it :-)

'or that somebody read "lq" as "1g"'

Haha, indeed ! Now that I see them next to each other it suddenly makes sense.. someone must have forgotten his/her glasses that day :-)

Thanks guys !

Re: hpux -1g

This option turns out not to be bootable.
Discarding it as a typo (or rather, bad copy from documentation).

yeah...we won't go into how I knew that. "say doctor, when can you remove those cataracts???"

Re: hpux -1g

just wanted to say that next time, try copy/paste into a document, then try changing the font...sometimes the fonts used, (typically...NewTimesRom) "l" and "q" look like "1" and "g"......

That's always a good idea when dealing with one's and ell's indeed.

Sadly enough (*cough*) I didn't set up this system, I'm just the poor consultant discovering things here and there ;-)
