HPUX IA-64 - boot from tape?

Hey everyone... quick question:

Does the IA-64 hardware yet support booting from an Ignite tape? We are looking to refresh our Ignite server (currently an rp8420) to an rx8640/11.31, but need to know whether or not an Itanium box can boot/install from tape.

Yes, boiot from tape is supported - see p10/11 of this whitepaper:

Thanks for the information. Where can I find the list of which servers and HBA's support booting from tape?

hi,

its possible to boot directly from tape on itanium, i made it several times.

The older servers like rx2600 and all the blades are not supported, but all others are.

There is a list under ignite manual section, listing all models and minimum firmware.

This is moved to somewhere under www.hp.com/go/ignite-ux

But keep in mind, the two step boot from DVD and restore from tape works for all the Integrities.

boot from tape IA machine, Ensure that you are with the latest FW. Few Old FW do not support Tape boot on itanium and throw errors as not found.
