Re: hpux to pc connection

Now that I have this working :), it raises
a question. Is my local subnet accessible
to the outside world? This is my configuration:
dial up modem
|
(dynamic ip)
windows 98SE
(ip 192.168.1.2)
|
(ip 192.168.1.1)
hpux 10.20

Could someone from the outside get access
(ftp/telnet) to the hpux machine? That is,
using a simple command like:
ftp 192.168.1.1
or
ping 192.168.1.1

What is a good reference book/web site to
understand these concepts?

regards,
gordon

Re: hpux to pc connection

Gordon,

Unless your IP is registered by a company like Network Solutions, you should not be able to reach it from any machine on the network.

I think you're safe, since the 192.168.x.x subnet is a private IP address range (meaning IP addresses from this range are not routed over the internet).

Hello!

Don't wory you wouldn't have problems,
192.168.x.x not in use in the internet.
Also no gateways to your net.
