HPUX VPars

If I want to have multiple vpars on a server do I need dedicated internal disks or can I have multiple vpars on one internal disk with mirroring to the other internal. If I can't can I use disk out on my EVA for the vpars
Many thanks

Re: HPUX VPars

The diagram on page 132-133 of the HP CSE guide shows each virtual parition with its own disks.

Requirement listed for vpar on page 133

1) at least 1 cpu
2) minimum amount of memory to support hpux
3) io capability to support a boot device
4) Lan card to support networking.

Seems like it needs a disk, but the disk need not be internal. The newer 9000 boxes will boot off a SAN.

Obviously I have no actual experience, but I hope this helps.

Re: HPUX VPars

Hi,

you do not only need separate disks, but they will have to be connected to a separate LBA. You cannot share disks on one daisy-chain between vPars.

Re: HPUX VPars

You cannot share disk paths or any I/O for that matter across vPars. Any path can only be in one OS instance at a time. Only the console is shared. You would need a separate HBA for each vPar (as a minimum). The combo FC/GigE cards are good for vPars.

Re: HPUX VPars

If you have separate SCSI cards you can do it, one for each vPar.
