hpux1020 crash without apprent reason
My hpux 10.20 system crashes almost everyday without apparent reason. The symptom is the screen is frozen all of a sudden when I am running some applications like xemacs and netscape. And then there is no response to keyboard and mouse input. The only thing I can do is to push the reset button.
No information is logged and no core is dumped, and I feel at lost at what is the next thing I should do trying to locate the problem.
I would appreciate if somebody can give a hint.
The following is my system info:
# uname -a
HP-UX hpw1 B.10.20 A 9000/780 2007267201 two-user license
# swlist -l bundle
B6193EA ACE.199912.01 Workstation ACE for HP-UX 10.20 (December 1999)
HPUXEngRT700 B.10.20 English HP-UX VUE Runtime Environment
XSW700GR1020 B.10.20.51.2 General Release Patches for HP-UX 10.20 Workstations (Dec. 2000)
# scsictl -a /dev/rdsk/c0t6d0
immediate_report = 1; queue_depth = 8

Re: hpux1020 crash without apprent reason
It's unclear from what you've reported, as to whether the machine has hung or just the Xserver.
Next time it occurs, try and log into the machine from anyother machine. If that works, it's not a machine hang.
Also, try pressing 'ctrl-shift-reset' to reset the Xserver.
(I'm assuming the reset your currently pressing is the 'toc' button on the machine? (again unclear from your message).

Re: hpux1020 crash without apprent reason
Seem like you workstation is hanging and not crashing.
I would suggest if your workstation is on the network, you should login to it from some another system as well. When you feel that your monitor screen is frozen you can check from the other system if it allows you to work. This way if you run the applications xemacs or netscape you could come to know that its just the application that hangs or the workstation it self.In any case it looks that the applications are causing the problem.
what does your syslog or dmesg say.
Goodluck
