Re: HPVM trial bundle

How did you assign the dvd drive?

hpvmstatus -v for the guest will show ...

is a media inserted?

Hope this helps!

Re: HPVM trial bundle

For DVDs:
must have DVD inserted when presenting this device, or present it as a null device then use in and ej commands from VM console.

Disk:
to make changes to a backingstore after it has been presented it must be un-presented and re-presented.

hpvmdevmgmt -l gdev will show you the backingstore info. Or hpvmstatus -P Vname

Re: HPVM trial bundle

Hey Thanks,
And what about the error
device file '/dev/rdsk/c2t1d0' is in use by server.
I am not able to add this disk to server.
Is it OK that we can create vm's by testbundles.
Thanks,
Kapil+

Re: HPVM trial bundle

Why not using an ISO image as virtual DVD drive?

Hope this helps!

Re: HPVM trial bundle

So use your PC to create an ISO from the DVD and FTP it to the server.

There are so many tools available to create the ISO.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: HPVM trial bundle

Ok.
so After creating ISO i'll assign that ISO to VM guest by
-a dvd:scsi::file:pathname/File.ISO

Now after doing hpvmconsole from EFI prompt how woul;d I boot the system.
Will it come as fs0: or blk0: in EFI prompt.
Thanks,

Re: HPVM trial bundle

IMHO the best solution is to create a virtual null DVD and "insert" the ISO image into the drive via the vMPs "insert" command.

From manual:

"...
you can set up a Virtual NullDVD to a file system directory containing the
ISO files that the guest administrator wants to access. This resource statement would take the
following form:
dvd:scsi::null:/pathname
Where /pathname is the file system directory where the ISO files are located."

see chapter

7.2.2.3.5 Virtual FileDVDs

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: HPVM trial bundle

Did you assign it like this?

dvd:scsi::null:/pathname
Where /pathname is the file system directory where the ISO files are located

Please provide your full command!

Did you "insert" the ISO into the drive?

vMP> in

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: HPVM trial bundle

"Inserting" an ISO into a virtual drive works like this (from virtual MP of the guest):

vMP> in

Insertable Guest Devices
Num Hw-path (Bus,Slot,Tgt) Gdev
--------------------------------------------
[1] 0/0/1/0.3.0 (0,1,3) dvd

Enter menu item number or [Q] to Quit: 1

Insertable File Backing Stores
Num File
---------------------
[1] installdvd1.iso
[2] installdvd2.iso

Enter menu item number or [Q] to Quit: 2

Confirm insertion action
G - Go
F - Force

Enter menu item or [Q] to Quit: g

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: HPVM trial bundle

Yes I assigned it like that....and in vMP> id in and uploaded cd it showed there.

So after loading...when m going to EFI....doign map
it is showing only 2 device blk0 and blk1.

nside it is saying.
blk1:\> ls
ls: Cannot open current directory - No mapping
Exit status code: No mapping.

What to do??

Re: HPVM trial bundle

If you did

- create the ISO correctly
- define the virtual drive correctly
- inserted the ISO correctly

you must see it, e.g. as fs0>

Please post from EFI inside the guest

Shell> reconnect -r
Shell> map -r

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: HPVM trial bundle

If you did

- create the ISO correctly
I created a file system and copied ISO in that FS.
- define the virtual drive correctly
defined as dvd:scsi::null:path/ISO
- inserted the ISO correctly
from vMP did in and it accepted server.iso

reconnect -r
reconnectcontroller(0,0,0) :status =success
map -r
blk0:
blk1:
blk2:

:(

Re: HPVM trial bundle

I asked you earlier for the complete commandline you did, but you did not post it.

So I'm not sure if all of the above was done correctly.

You also did not post all of the output.

On this basis I can't help you.

BTW, from what DVD did you take the ISO?

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: HPVM trial bundle

Try this.

After you IN to mount the virtual DVD/ISO file, select boot options from EFI. Select the DVD device to create a boot option.

Then just boot it.

It is possible that the EFI does not see or recognize the media and does not map a FSx for it.

I hope your windows CD is for **IA64** - Itanium!

Otherwise try the hp-ux install DVD.

Hope this helps!
