I can t login in to the CDE Desktop.

I can?t login in to the CDE Desktop.

I? am using NAT tot connect tot a HP system telnet is no problem but I can?t login to the CDE. I want to do this whit a XDMCP query. (Exceed)

Network information:

I dial in whit ISDN (ip 192.XX..XX.XX) in to a ISDN Router the router is doing IP translation (NAT) from (ip 192.XX..XX.XX to 10.XX.XX.XX.)

I Think that the system is sending the CDE to 192.XX..XX.XX in stat of 10.XX.XX.XX.

Is there a solution fore this?

Ore is it possible to send a CDE tot a xterm from the command line?

thanks

Michel

Re: I can t login in to the CDE Desktop.

Michel,

If establishing a telnet session is not a problem, then in theory, neither will be establishing a CDE connection -- IF your router allows connections to the proper ports.

Does your nat'ing router also firewall? If so, start there to see what ports are open.

Hi,

Make sure that the port(s) have been allowed access to x-windows based traffic. This is a known down-fall when setting up CDE to run through NAT from desktops.

ports you will most likely need to open up ...

177- XDMCP ,6000 - Xserver ( & 7000 (if using xfs - aka fontserver)

also don't rule out this might be something else .... hostname resolution or fonts are other possible causes.

best place to check will be exceeds log file and also make use of its trace utility in the trouble-shooting section of Exceeds Xconfig gui

Re: I can t login in to the CDE Desktop.

I think the problem is the XdmcpAddress in the PC. The pc thinks that his IP address = 192.XX..XX.XX (ISDN) but in the lan network it is 10.XX.XX.XX.

Some other information:

Bringing up from the xterm from the command line is no problem. Xterm ?display 10.XX.XX.XX.

Michel--
Make sure your hostname isn't longer than 8 characters. I've had X login problems that have cleared up once I've corrected this.

Other than that, it should be fine as long as dtlogin is running--it looks like your firewall is sorted out.
