SolutionYes you can run the Admin and the Agent on one machine. You'll have to setup your IDS/9000 as a loopback system. If you go to http://www.docs.hp.com/hpux/pdf/J5083-90007.pdf you will find all the information as to how to configure a loopback system in Chapter 2. I have never tried the java console from Windows so I wouldn't be able to answer that one though.

Regarding having to setup a loopback address, this only applies if you have a standalone system, not on the network. I have a 700 system that is on the network, and it acts as it's own agent and admin system. I didn't have to take any special steps to configure.

There is also free emulation packages such as Cygwin/XFree86 (see http://xfree86.cygwin.com/)
