Ignite backup of omniback cell manager

Hello!

I'm doing Ignite backup up 10.20 cell manager. My Ignite version is 3.7.95.
The file systems where OBII is installed, is not part of vg00. Has anyone tried doing Ignite backup of cell manager and include omniback binaries and catalog in the include list? Is this good backup? Can you recover cell manager from this Ignite tape and do not need to install OBII recover catalog from catalog backup?

Thanks

Re: Ignite backup of omniback cell manager

/opt/ignite/bin/make_tape_recovery -Av -x inc_entire=vg00 inc_entire=vgob

vgob stands for the volume group that omniack is in.

There are specific procedures for restoring the omniback catalog, but you can test above with the command line above.

Re: Ignite backup of omniback cell manager

GK, I have not used an ignite backup to recover the database, but I did copy it "cold" from one server to another with good result. You will need to down the OB server before you can back it up..

Re: Ignite backup of omniback cell manager

As long as the omniback database is not in operation, (shutdown) then you can basically back it up using any method, including ignite. (although none of these methods are actually supported, but will work)Just be aware of the size of the database when doing your backups.

Re: Ignite backup of omniback cell manager

I agree with Michael. If OBII is stopped, it is like Ignite backing up flat files and it should recover OBII catalog as well.

Re: Ignite backup of omniback cell manager

You need to make sure that OBii database is down prior to the ignite. Also, depending on the size of your OBii database - may or may not fit on the ignite tape.

Re: Ignite backup of omniback cell manager

We actually do this and it works.

We also have DP in vg00 and do ignite backups to DLT.
Never preceed any demonstration with anything more predictive than "watch this"
