Ignite backup on Virtual Partitions using make_tape_recovery

We have recently purchased an RP8420 server. The server has been configured with two hardware partitions and each partition has two Virtual Partitions configured. On each VP we have HP-UX 11i O/S installed and running. Also each VP has access to its own DDS drive.

My question is can we use the ignite utility make_tape_recovery to create an ignite backup on DDS in a Virtual Partition environment or do we have to use make_net_recovery?

The problem with the make_net_recovery approach is that we have to then set up a an Ignite-UX Server (IUX) and then configure the required clients on the IUX server, along with setting up of all the associated files that go along with this approach. I would much prefer to simply stick a tape into the DDS drive connected to a VP and run make_tape_recovery, but then I want to be certain that I can use this ignite backup to restore the VP. Can someone please confirm if this is possible.

Many thanks

Khalil

Khalil,

You should have no problem running make_tape_recovery on a vPar. We run them and they work just like a normal server would.
