Ignite install failure: sea lan INSTALL => No devices found

Dear Ignite Guru's:

I have a virgin RP5470 in which I wish to install HP-UX v11.0 (I have v11.20 OS media on cd, but our environment requires v11.0). The system refused to boot off of my Nov '99 11.0 core OS cd, presumably because the new hardware is not supported on the old release.

So, I configured an Ignite server with v11.0 SD including the latest HWE and Quality packs downloaded from the internet. My ignite server (a D380 running HP-UX v11.0). Unfortunately, when I attempt to boot via:
'boot lan. INSTALL', I get:
Booting...
Failed to initialize.
ENTRY_INIT
Status = -4

Next I tried to verify that my install target could detect the ignite server:
'SEA LAN INSTALL'
which yielded:
'No Devices Found'

Both hosts are on the same network.

Gotta run now, but will check in tomorrow.
Thanks in advance!

-Mark

Hi Mark,

Check out this faq,

http://www.software.hp.com/products/IUX/faq.html

Check out section 2.3 . Make sure you have the correct version of ignite on the ignite server.

Hope this helps.

Re: Ignite install failure: sea lan INSTALL => No devices found

Hi Sanjay,

I have reviewed the referenced FAQ - thanks.

I am running Ignite-UX vB.3.6.82 under HP-UX v11.0. My ignite server, a D380, is not listed in the support table, but a note suggests that either the 'A' or 'B' versions should work. I have not seen any instl_bootd error messages within syslog.log.

My server has both tftpd and instl_bootd enabled in inetd.conf.
There is a valid IP address within instl_boottab.
Running 'instl_adm -d' returns valid info.

I 'pre-booted' the Ignite target off an 11.20 OS cd, just to make sure the system was fundamentally healthy. It started up normally.

I'm wondering if there is a way to determine whether the problem is with my ignite server and config, or the client that I am trying to boot/install. Suggestions?

Re: Ignite install failure: sea lan INSTALL => No devices found

Fyi, I have been unable to resolve the Ignite problems. Due to time contrainst, I am going to utilize local installation media, which just arrived today.

Thanks,

Re: Ignite install failure: sea lan INSTALL => No devices found

Hi Mark,

This is a bit old topic but since it seems you didn't get the problem solve I thought to give it a try ;)

I had a similar problem with my Ignite/UX server (sea lan install -> device not found etc). Problems were caused by wrong permissions on /etc/opt/instl_bootd file. They should be 755.

Re: Ignite install failure: sea lan INSTALL => No devices found

.. a small correction - I meant
/etc/opt/ignite/instl_boottab t.
