Restore failed from L1000 to RP5430

Hi,

I have restored an ignite tape from an L1000 to an RP5430 all went well until it went for its first reboot where upon it fails with various errors and just keeps rebooting. The only mention of a readable error is attached. Any one happen to have restored from an L1000 or L2000 to an RP5430.

Rgds,

The rp5430 needs 11i at a minimum, is that was on your L1000?

If not, then you will need to build the server from scratch.

Re: Restore failed from L1000 to RP5430

Hi!

Don't worry, the RP5430 supports 11.00.

The panic string indicates that the CPU type is not recognized by the kernel. This is usually caused by missing enablement patches, in this case for PA8700, I assume.

You should try to install a recent HWE patch bundle on the L1000 and create _then_ the Ignite tape for the RP5430.

Re: Restore failed from L1000 to RP5430

Hello,

An RP5430 requires 11i version 1.6 ONLY if you have a PA8700+ CPU (875MHz). Otherwise, 11.00 is supported.

Re: Restore failed from L1000 to RP5430

Hi!

Ooops... I missed the new 875MHz box. Sorry for that, had an out-dated doc.

11i 1.6 (aka 11.22) is IA64-only!

This should be correct:

rp5430 550,650,750MHz and rp5470 650,750MHz are supported on IPR 0109 (September 2001) and later of HP-UX 11.0 and 11i.

All 750MHz CPU's are supported on IPR 0109 and later of HP-UX 11.0 and 11i.

rp5430 and rp5730 875MHz CPU's are supported on IPR 0206 and later of HP-UX 11i ONLY!

Re: Restore failed from L1000 to RP5430

The RP5430 has 2 x 750Mhz CPU's so from what you say it should be OK, I have already (a couple of months ago) restored an L2000 to the RP and all was OK but looking at the patch status of the current L2000 that I am having a problem with it is on Dec 1999 so it looks like all I need do is update the patch and try again. I'll assign and let you all know later as I'm off to load some patches.

Re: Restore failed from L1000 to RP5430

Hi Again,

Success at last, here is the outcome:- I rang HP to see if I was on a non runner and they said it would not work as the GSP revisions on the two servers were incompatible and a hardware upgrade to the L1000 would sort it out. But I followed advice given here and applied the March 2002 HWE and QPK to the server, cut another ignite tape and low and behold it all worked fine when doing the restore of the ignite from the L to the RP.

Thanks to all.
