Got Ignite-UX c.6.8.x and did Ignite copy of a rp8400 system (vg00)
Put in new drives and I am trying to restore. Boots from the tape, finds the archive, positions the archive, starts reading the archive, then errors out saying "this does not look like a tar tape"
What gives?

SolutionWas the Ignite image made with special options?
If not, I'd say the image is worthless. I'd attribute it to an error that should have crashed the image build or an error in the Ignite software itself.

Re: ignite restore problem
-a /dev/rmt/1mn -I -t host_20060816 -x inc_entire=vg00
The log says ignite created successfully - there were no errors or warnings.

Re: ignite restore problem
Did you try to verify the tape itself :
# mt -f /dev/rmt/1mn rew
# mt -f /dev/rmt/1mn fsf 1
# tar -tvf /dev/rmt/1mn
With this we can indicate whether the data on the tape is good or not.
Hope this information can help.
Cheers,
AW

Re: ignite restore problem
Maybe there is a problem with pax and tar
Don't count on another backup with the same version of Ignite being any good.

Re: ignite restore problem
This is C.6.8.152 - which is (or was) the latest last week. A quick check shows it is still the latest.
Next step. How to get an older version for 11.00, 11.11, & 11.23?
What steps to take to alert HP?
