Ignite restore screen is un-readable

I am running HPUX 11.00 on a rp2470 A Class.
I have a complete ignite backup using the -I option for interactive restore.
I need to test the backup before I take it to a customer site. So I booted the system from the tape drive and select N for IPL interaction. Then what appears to be a menu shows up as garbage everywhere on the screen. I can tab and pick up words like Summary..., Install etc but it is not readable so I don't know what I'm doing. The console I'm using is the standard HP console that came with the new system. I know its a terminal setting but where do I set this terminal setting if I'm booting from the tape ?

Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Re: Ignite restore screen is un-readable

If you are using a console, make sure the datacomm configuration for the terminal is HP

It has to be EM100 for 11.11 and HP for 11.00

Post back if you need details on how to change the HP terminal, but it is somewhat intuitive.

Re: Ignite restore screen is un-readable

Steven, if you mean the Emulation of the Console then its already set to "HPTerm".

Otherwise I'm not sure what you are referring to.

Re: Ignite restore screen is un-readable

Hi PA

OK, this is not going to be very helpful but I think I know exactly the problem you are having.
I have sorted this problem out before by playing around with the function keys F1-F8. I really can't remember which ones I used but I think F4 or F5. I don't have a console in front of me so can't check.

Probably easiest to login in to the box from this console & you'll have the same problem, then mess around with the function keys until you can get clear info.

Sorry can't give you any more help than that. Maybe someone else knows what Function Keys etc to use.

Cheers

Re: Ignite restore screen is un-readable

Got it !!!.

Con you were close - it was F1 (or F2 can also be used).

It ended up being the terminal emulation - I changed it from HPTerm to VT100 (using F10 then F8 to get into the terminal settings - then F1, or F2 to change it from HPTerm to VT100).

I thought I would have to change the TERM variable but I was wrong.

Thanks guys for the tip - it pointed me in the right direction.

Re: Ignite restore screen is un-readable

Excellent - tried the Ctrl B method. Works well too.
