Re: Ignite Software
Swap out the hard disk and then boot off the Ignite server and recover your image.
Also, you can/should/could use a tape drive on a remote system - although I've heard this is flaky...
Using a disk as an Ignite backup device isn't supported.

Re: Ignite Software
Considering the cost of a V2200, including a DAT tape drive would be considered a rounding error. It is obvious whoever put together (and those who accepted) the quote didn't think things through. A local tape drive is Disaster Reccovery insurance.

Re: Ignite Software
I think that V class servers dont boot thro network and hence this option may not hold good. We had the same problem and we used to reload the OS incase of a crash.
Go thro this TKB - It says that V2200 doesnt support network boot. Some V classes didnt even boot thro the tape...but that problem was resolved in V2500.

You can try with a recovery CD.

Re: Ignite Software
Please read the Ignite release notes concerning the V-Class servers. It is very different from other servers HP sells. The V class does not support a network boot required for the use of make_net_recovery.
Paragraph 4.3:
The T, V, H, G, I, E class and 9000/8*7S systems do not support network boot.
You have 2 options here: (1) Is to attach a tape device and use make_tape_recovery to create your archive and restore. (2) While the system is up use make_net_recovery to creat an archive on an Ignite server. Then create a bootable CD-RW using the make_net_recovery image as the archive for the cd. This is a very arduous task documented at:
http://www.software.hp.com/products/IUX/docs/Customized_Install_Media_Paper.pdf
Well actually there is a third option that does not use ignite at all. Is it possible for you to simply add the disk to vg00, mirror the contents and then remove the old disk? This would require MirrorDisk-UX and a slot for the additional disk.
Thanks for participating in the forums,
Martin
