Image Conversion

Hello Forumers,

Does anyone know of a utility which will convert a TIFF file to an HP RTL (Raster Transfer Language) file format? If possible, I need a solution that will run on HP-UX 11.0.

TIA, Derek

Re: Image Conversion

Hi Derek,

Take a look at ImageMagic:

Re: Image Conversion

Thanks Pete for your response but I don't see RTL as a supported format for ImageMagic.

Re: Image Conversion

Hi Derek:

While it's not free, one product that will do this and works very well is "Image Alchemy" or (if you also might need to support Postscript conversions) "Image Alchemy PS" from http://www.handmadesw.com.

It runs on many platforms including HP-UX though the Windows version is cheaper.

If this is a one-off use then I suppose that I should tell you that www.unform.com has an Image Conversion selection on its website that actually uses Image Alchemy PS.

I've yet to have an image conversion task that this package can't handle.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Image Conversion

Hi Clay,

Image Alchemy looks good and I am downloading the demo. One question: Have you actually used this to convert a TIFF file to an RTL file and scaled the image?

Thanks,
Derek

Re: Image Conversion

Does a hog like slop? In fact, I did a TIFF to RTL last month for some logo changes to an invoice. I used Image Alchemy PS to scale a TIFF image (preserving aspect ratio), do a Gamma correction, and output in RTL format. I also did the same conversion but to PCL. Our print formmatting package requires that ColorLaserJet images be RTL while the Black&Whites must be PCL. I KNOW this works.
